Army Public School in Peshawar attacked by terrorists flashed the television screen. Such a horrendous act. I thought. Being a schoolboy myself a peculiar fear engulfed me. Even though I sat around 750 kilometers away from the site of the siege horrid thoughts kept me worrying day in and day out. It could have happened to anybody, anywhere. Interviews of weeping parents being shown over and over moved my soul. Our nation had promised every possible help to the wounded nation. #INDIAWITHPAKISTAN was trending. While going through the top tweets I came across a tweet with #StopIndianTerrorism. My world was turned upside down. Here lived 1.21 billion people praying for the innocent souls, promising all possible help and there 182.1 million people were blaming the former for the massacre. My thoughts were in the state of upheaval. A few days later when this incident had started to fade away from my naive mind I got a text message from one of my closest friends. It read, In the remembrance of the children who died in Peshawar a candle march is going to be organised on the Mall Road on 19/12/2014 at 6 PM. Kindly do come as it is the least that we can do to pay our reverence. Dilemma, thick clouds of confusion loomed over my mind. These people were regularly firing our people who lived near the border, funding terrorism against our nation and we............ we were burning candles for their dear departed. But were these children a part of it? No, they werent. Yet I was unable to be part of the candle march, I risked defying my friends and being tagged as a selfish moron and preferred going to watch a movie than being a part of something that would have no positive impact whatsoever. Or as I thought it to be. 19/12/2014 2000hours My phone rang, it was my best friend Akshay. Hello hey! Akshay whats up? I asked. Where were you? He asked in an angered tone. Im in the theatre. I replied sheepishly. Akshay was furious , Great o! Great! Here we are rubbing our soles flat and you are watching a movie. Im ashamed of you. He retorted and hung up. I was drawn into deep thought. Never before had I sensed such commitment in Akshays voice, not even during final exams or while playing cricket. I was again made to ponder over what was right and what was wrong. I thought over it for hours and hours, and them came to a conclusion. We believe what we are made to believe. No source of information is completely reliable. Peoples actions are not driven by love or sympathy but by the greed of fame and money. Not everyone is good likewise not everyone is bad either. True intelligence lies in not being influenced by whatever and whoever we come across. Consciousness.
