Around 11:30 AM this morning, Im driving out the 210 Freeway East to the Rancho Cucamonga area to present my SPOOKY cartoon assembly program at the Stork Elementary School. Right before the 605 freeway, I noticed that my air conditioner wasnt pushing out cold air... it was warm air. I fiddled with the AC controls and then noticed that my heat gauge was at the top, solid red. My car was quickly overheating. I turned on the cars heater and pushed it to full to take as much heat away from the engine as possible. I also took the next exit and pulled into a 76 Gas Station. Luckily, they had a mechanic. My cars radiator cracked. I was stuck. My assembly program was 1 hour and 45 minutes away. Thankfully, I am ALWAYS EARLY to all my events just in case I run into these kind of emergencies. Its going to cost $250 to replace my radiator. I had the 76 mechanic call Enterprise car rentals and was picked up by a rep from the company. I left my car at the mechanics and loaded all my assembly equipment into the Enterprise Reps car. We drove to the Enterprise office where I rented a car ($36 for a 24-hour period). I was able to make it to the school with a half hour to spare before my assembly program. 89 students attended and we had a blast drawing 7 SPOOKY cartoon characters. I left at 2:30 PM and drove back home where I changed and went out to my corporate caricature event at the Glendale Hilton. I got there an hour before my start time, drew 2 hours, then came back home. Tomorrow, I drive the rental car back out to Rancho Cucamonga area, drop it off, get a ride with the Enterprise rep over to the 76 station and pick up my car. Thankfully, I have Thursday off. It was a long, strange day, but I made it through. I need a double scotch. :]
