Around 130 faith leaders and immigrant rights activists were detained in July 2014 in front of the White House. The detentions followed a rally in nearby Lafayette Square against deportations of undocumented migrants and calls for the US government to take action on immigration reform legislation. Among the detained activists were delegates from the United Methodist Church, the Church World Service, the Unitarian Universalist Association, the United Church of Christ, the Sisters of Mercy and others. Bishops, nuns and pastors held a prayer service urging the government to stop deportations of immigrant families and to protect the rights of unaccompanied minors.
