Around 150 unidentified bodies found in unnamed graves in IHK Updated on Jun 24, 2013 Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, a local human rights forum, the Voice of Victims (VoV), has revealed the presence of around 150 unidentified bodies in scores of unnamed mass graves that have been discovered in Beerwah area of Badgam district. The VOV in a report said that 16 unknown persons were buried in just one such grave.The forum spokesman said that an investigation team led by Abdul Qadeer Dar, Executive Director, and Abdur Rauf Khan, Coordinator of the VoV, visited the area and gathered information about the people who were buried in a major graveyard of the area during the last 23 years. The report, quoting the locals, said that 23 years ago a graveyard was established on emergency basis on the vast land near the Beerwah market where the people were buried who, according to the Indian troops and police, were killed during encounters in different areas. The locals told the VoV team that the troops and police used to bring dead bodies and hand over to them for burial. The investigation team in its report, referring to the people of the area including Ghulam Muhammad Wani, Ghulam Qadar Zargar, Zahoor Ahmad, Khurshid Ahmad Banday, Mushtaq Ahmad, Muhammad Irfan Banday and Ejaz Ahmad Khan, said that during the last 23 years, 150 unidentified and mutilated bodies were buried in the graveyard. They said that the burial of such bodies started in early 1990. According to the report, the graveyard is full of unknown bodies and has been named as Mazaar-e-Shuhada. The people told the team that during the last 23 years they mostly buried the mutilated bodies. The spokesman said that people told Abdul Qadeer Dar and Abdur Rauf Khan that once the troops brought six heedless bodies and ordered their burial in a single grave. He said that once 16 bodies were buried in one grave. The residents further said that in 1991 during the exhumation of one of the graves it was found that the buried person was an innocent youth hailing from Harvan area of Srinagar. According to VoV, if the bodied buried in the Beerwah graveyard were identified many Indian troops and police personnel involved in the killing of these people would be exposed.
