Around 34 years ago I thought it was cool. Everyone else did it, so I did. I had just moved from the big city and most of my new country friends did it. I didnt like the Copenhagen brand so started using the Skoal Wintergreen. Back then you could take it to school and not get in trouble. You could purchase it at any age I suppose, seems that I did. Sometime later I switched over to Copenhagen, again I think it was more just cool factor than taste. For the first 20 years or so I didnt think about being hooked on it, or addicted to it. Not even thinking for one minute about the costs involved. I tried quitting a few times, for a few days, only to fail either to withdrawals or weakness of the mind. Up until last week I was spending close to $200 a month on my habit. $2400 a year. Heck, using that math Ive used $76,800 worth of snuff in the last 32 years. I know, it didnt cost that much back then. Well, if you add all the gas I used when I was out of snuff and had to run to town then it might be close, if not more. Two weeks ago today, I stopped using. It has not been easy. I actually had some withdrawals last week that caused me to lose sleep. I still want. Want. Bad. I think its mostly habit now than the actual need. I dont want to go back. I dont want to explain to my grand daughter again why my teeth are yellow. I dont want my wife to tell me to get a piece of gum because my breath stinks. I dont want to have to plan to get a spit cup to go set in a meeting, or plan to get a dip any time for that matter. Im sorry if I have seemed on the edge the last two weeks. Im sorry if my habit ever offended you for that matter. I would appreciate if you said a prayer for me. Specifically that this habit will be removed from my life, and that these symptoms will cease. Its been a rough 14 days, but it is getting easier as each day goes by. Thanks WW
