Around this time of year in 2013, we had been renovating The Roxbury for about 6 months and it was a long way from being ready to open. During one of the worst cold spells I can ever remember in the Catskills, I was upstairs from what is now the main lobby by myself one day and heard a horrible noise and the sound of loud rushing water. I ran downstairs and our pipes had burst and super hot water was gushing all over everything we had been working on for six months. I slipped and fell and knocked my head on the kitchen counter and was dazed for a moment. Back then, I did not even know what a shut-off valve was, let alone where they were located. I ran around outside for a moment with my wet hair freezing almost instantaneously until a neighbor saw me and took pity and came to help. Needless to say, it left me scarred forever when I hear the sound of rushing water. Fast forward to last night and I am in the new Stratton House by myself. I usually have the radio playing in the house and last night before I closed up I turned it off and all of a sudden heard loud rushing water. My heart skipped a beat and I found myself running all over the house in a panic until I stopped dead in my tracks and realized that I was hearing the waterfall outside! After laughing at myself for a moment and catching my breath, I thanked the universe and closed up. Today’s falls video is from a different perspective – the top of the falls.
