Arrests: Coalition Accuses Police Of Bias. The Osun State Civil Societies Coalition has said that the Imo State Police Command is acting out the script of some political parties following the arrest of some of its members who were going to monitor the governorship poll in Anambra State. The Acting Chairman of the OSCSC, Mr. Abiodun Agboola, said at a press conference on Friday evening that the arrest and the parade of Mr. Waheed Lawal who is the chairman of the OSCSC by the police in Imo State was an attempt to prevent the group from monitoring the Anambra governorship poll. Agboola said that Lawal and others members of Justice and Equity Organisation arrested were duly accredited by Independent National Electoral Commission to monitor the poll contrary to the claim of the Imo State Police Commissioner. He urged the Inspector General of Police to step into the case in order to find out why the election observers were paraded like criminals. According to him, the name of Justice and Equity Organization was published on page 22 of The PUNCH newspaper edition of October 21, 2013 as one of the groups accredited to monitor the Anambra State governorship poll. He stated that no election materials nor INEC identity cards were found on those arrested but the INEC tags for accredited observers. He’s aid, “We have engaged the services of reputable lawyers and we are determined to get to the root of the matter. Our members are not criminals and they are not gun runners. We want the police to explain to the nation where they got the two guns they paraded with our leaders and members. “We will resist any attempt to label our members as criminals. These are people who fought for the enthronement of democracy: we won’t allow the police to label them as criminals. We must get to the root of the matter.”
