Arrived in Cairns Sunday 30th November to meet the owner of the Toyota Prado & camper trailer on Monday. Top guy, doing his time in the Navy in PNG. Ian finishes up on Thursday 18th December & flys to Perth via Brisbane. In the meantime I am driving his Prado across Australia as a relocation job. Whilst in Cairns it was a great opportunity to catch up with my cousins Kate & Sias who took great care of me whilst in Cairns. Saw their new home & met the two dogs who were great company for me while they were both working. Kate & Sias have a beautiful home with swimming pool and have set up their little piece of Australia just fine. I left Cairns last Friday 5th December & drove south to Townsville then across to Charters Towers. This old mining town was my home for 3 years back in the early 60s, whilst I attended All Souls Boarding School. So I called in for a look around & met a former School Captain & Prefect from my era!! Howard Lowe ended up doing uni after his learning at Souls & became a teacher. Howard then came back as a teacher for All Souls! Howard is in the process of organizing a museum there so will have to send him some of my old school photos for display. It was great walking around the school grounds & this brought back many memories from those years spent locked up!! I stayed in town & found my old dentist surgery where I visited many times over those 3 long years. Also saw the old picture theater that I did managed to see a few shows. This was a few rare occasions when out for weekends with my adopted Fenwick family. From Charters Towers drove south on Saturday to Emerald which I must say was a boring drive & rough as. There were so many dead animals on the road, cattle, sheep, kangaroos & wild pigs! Went through Clermont and finally arrived in Emerald in the early afternoon. Caught up with my old Mate Grahame who was visiting his Son Adrian. It was a great night Saturday as Adrian was having his Christmas work party. Boy those country folk know how to party. Sunday I left Emerald & drove west across to Barcaldine. The temperature near Jericho was registering 45 degrees. Now that is one hot day!! Monday travelled further south to Charleville dodging more dead animals plus huge massive road trains with up to four trailers. Huge rigs must be up top 30 or 40 metres long!!. In Charleville I stayed at the Cobb and Co Caravan Park. Great place to stay, nice & quiet away from all the road trains that travel all night long!! Staying in Charleville also gave me the chance to catch up with the team of Stay on Track Outback - Sarah & Juliette. This program is a police initiative for road safety especially for caravans & four wheel drive expeditions outback where so many accidents happen. Sarah & Juliette do a great job spreading the word regarding safety. So today Tuesday my plan was to drive south to Cobar but with delays with road works, plus lost an hour with daylight saving this did not happen!! So had to pull up short in North Bourke at Kidmans Camp Country Resort. What a fantastic place in the middle of nowhere?? Awesome amenities & the owners are so friendly. Have taken a heap of photos with my journey so far, so will try & upload some maybe in the next day or two; when in Broken Hill or Port Augusta. Will also post a few special places to visit if you are ever out this way, that serve awesome food & great coffee like a top shelf coffee stop in Tambo called Fannys? The food was amazing just like the coffee. Will place more info soon. Have to hit the bed now as the eyes & my body are demanding rest and sleep!! Good night all. Talk again soon with the Anthonys report out west and on the road to Perth!! LOL Stay safe and happy days to all. Cheers
