Arsenal trailing in race to sign Kondogbia: Arsenal’s transfer window saga looks set to continue as they face tough competition from Monaco to sign Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia. Arsene Wenger had come under fire for his failure to sign a single senior player this summer even before Arsenal’s opening day defeat to Aston Villa. And now reports suggest he is to miss out on the France international as Monaco make a £13m bid to take the player back to France. Paper Round’s view: Sevilla insist that Kondogbia will not be sold for less than his £17m buy-out clause but he continues to be linked with a move and clubs remain optimistic there is room for negotiation. Monaco have already splashed the cash this summer and are genuine title-contenders in Ligue 1 while Arsenal have already been hit with the “crisis club” tag, albeit after only one game. But with Monaco able to offer ridiculous wages to their players, a return to France is likely to look more appealing than a move to the Premier League for the former Lens player. Newcastle eye Ince to replace Cabaye: Newcastle have entered the race to sign Blackpool youngster Tom Ince. Tottenham have shown an interest in Ince but have been keen to negotiate down from the £8m fee. But armed with the money from the almost inevitable sale of unhappy Yohan Cabaye, the Magpies are reportedly ready to meet Blackpool’s asking price.
