Arsenal’s chase of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira - TopicsExpress

Arsenal’s chase of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has been well documented in the papers with the balance of the transfer hanging on the player’s wages according to earlier reports. However, fresh reports indicated that Arsenal were nowhere near signing Khedira and had never really tried to sign the German this summer. Now, Manager Arsene Wenger appears to have finally gotten over Khedira and is looking to make a shock move for former QPR man Stephane Mbia. According to the Daily Star, Mbia has been marked by Arsenal as a cheaper alternative to Khedira given his free agent status and the former Marseille star wants a wage of £60,000 per week, a joke compared to his German counterpart. Although other Premier League teams such as Newcastle and Crystal Palace are also interested in the Cameroon international, a move to Arsenal would guarantee regular participation in the Champions League, an important factor in tipping the balance towards the Gunners. Mbia spent the last season on loan at Sevilla and was instrumental in their successful Europa League campaign during his 30 appearances. The African is known for his incredible strength on the ball along with fantastic tackling ability, thus making him a much better option than Khedira as a defensive midfielder. Mbia has minimalistic wage demands of £60,000 per week and Arsene Wenger could be tempted to take the Cameroonian onboard before the start of the new season.
