Maharashtra government in favour of equal distribution of water: Chavan Niraj Chinchkhede, TNN Sep 18, 2013, 06.43AM IST AURANGABAD: Speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony on the occasion of Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din here in the city on Tuesday, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan downplayed the widespread protest over the demand for water in Jayakwadi and said that the government would take every possible step to provide enough water to Marathwada. He said the government was in favour of equal distribution of water. Sidestepping the Jayakwadi controversy, Chavan expressed happiness over the satisfactory spell of rainfall in the state and said that water levels in many reservoirs are quite encouraging. "The situation in the current season appears far better. However, we are planning to implement massive water conservation programmes for the next three years to deal with water scarcity. The government will also focus on decentralization of water storages and promote Kolhapur-type check dams, etc," he said, adding that the government will focus on development of non-irrigated land.
