Artist Info: SSBT is an Austin-based electro-acoustic trio razing notions of volume, tempo, and symmetry via duel horns, duel guitars, tape, and percussion. In addition to an April 2014 tour with sound artist John Wiese (Sissy Spacek), the free improvisation group has played concerts throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico City. SSBT features No Idea Festival Founder and Director Chris Cogburn on percussion; Steve Jansen – who has collaborated and shared stages with Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Frank Rosaly, James Fella, and Christina Carter – on guitar, saxophone, and tape manipulation; and Parham Daghighi, an Iranian-American artist who focuses on electric guitar, alto saxophone, and vocal/text work that’s rooted in the Persian language. After selling out of its debut cassette Lucy and Winston in just a few months, the group is touring in support of its second release Helms Deep, a limited-edition 50-minute cassette on That’s Cool Records that will be available for the first time during the band’s August 2014 tour of the Pacific Northwest. CLÉMENT/ OLSEN /RUHLMANN each have a common background in improvisational music and field recording. As a trio they ‘apply assorted electroacoustic techniques to various instruments and objects to produce deeply textured music that bristles with activity and shifts through different colour fields that bursts alive through little events’. The trio have recently released a CD alongside UK improviser Daniel Jones, on the Vancouver based caduc. label. Exploring the limits of patience and minimalism in music, their composition was more akin to a failed field recording than a musical set.
