From locally created visual displays in vacant or under-utilized storefronts, to pop-up parks, and art galleries and live performances in commercial spaces, the rich diversity of the Twin Cities’ cultural community is front and center for all to view and share. The Cultural District stretches from the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden to the Mississippi Riverfront to create a unified, attractive and walkable destination to benefit residents, businesses and property owners, artists and visitors alike. The Cultural District in downtown Minneapolis is led by Hennepin Theatre Trust with active partners Artspace, the City of Minneapolis and Walker Art Center. General Guidelines Made Here is accepting applications now through Monday, May 13, 2014 to fill vacant and under-utilized street facing windows with visual displays of work in nearly any medium. Successful displays will be engaging, illuminated and clearly visible from the sidewalk through the storefront windows. Who is eligible: Any Minnesota based individual artist or artist collaboration who can create a visual display of their creative work in any medium. What’s provided: $300.00 artist stipend Space for displaying artwork, professional installation assistance and signage is provided. Displays are required to have a source of illumination. Basic clamp lamps, bulbs, extension cords and timers will be available as needed. An electrical source and the cost of electricity will be provided as well. Minimal carpentry and hardware may also be available. Please specify requests for carpentry, set design assistance or other needs outside of artist’s abilities in the application. All applicants will be provided with professional photography of their displays. Made Here will provide extensive marketing support of the exhibit and the larger project through email distributions, social media, public events and tours. A dedicated web address featuring the artist statement, exhibit photo and links. A personalized hashtag for public comments and participation. Two Made Here blog post opportunities during the 90 day run of the exhibit.
