Artists who have surpassed the career success of their parents PART I: (1) Salim Khan & Salman Khan -Before he wrote blockbuster movies with Javed Akhtar, Salim Khan had a non-distinguished acting career during 60s. So he must be proud of son Salman, who has delivered 4 out of top 6 most successful movies in the modern era. (2) Rakesh Roshan & Hrithik Roshan -Before he became a successful filmmaker in 80s, Rakesh Roshan had a mediocre acting career where his only success came doing supporting roles to Rishi Kapoor (Khel Khel Mein, Jhootha Kahin Ka, Aap Ke Deewane). Son Hrithik Roshan has become a force to reckon with and before the emergence of Ranbir Kapoor, was the only name that carried its weight besides the Khans. (3) Deb Mukherjee & Ayan Mukherjee -Younger brother of Joy Mukherjee, Deb didnt do too well in movies like Sumbandh, Adhikar, Ek Baar Muskura Do, Karate, etc. Son Ayan has just delivered biggest hit of the year, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani following up on critically acclaimed Wake Up Sid. (4) Tahir Hussain & Aamir Khan -As a producer Tahir Hussain didnt have much success with flop movies like Madhosh, Zakhmee, Khoon Ki Pukar, Locket, etc. Its hard to believe today that Aamir actually did a snake drama Tum Mere Ho directed by his father! (5) Pankaj Kapur & Shahid Kapoor -Pankaj Kapur is considered one of the best supporting actors and had commercial success with TV serial Karamchand, but most of the bollywood work, even though brilliant, went largely unnoticed. Even though Shahid has been having an up and down career so far, he still remains one of the most recognized faces. (6) Randhir Kapoor & Kareena/Karishma Kapoor -Most of the solo movies of Randhir Kapoor had flopped in 70s and he is the only Kapoor parivar male without a blockbuster to his name. Karishma made a very successful pair with Govinda/David Dhawan during 90s and Kareena has achieved number 1 actress status in bollywood.
