As 2014 is winding down, the year has had its ups and downs for all of us. But regardless weve never traveled the journey alone. Focusing our thoughts on God moves us to praise him. The more we know him, the more we can appreciate what he has done. 2015 brings with it a sense of renewing, starting over, and also the unknown. 2.) But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3.) They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. --Psalm 1: 2&3 These two verses hold simple wisdom: The more we delight in obeying God, the more fruitful we are. On the other hand, the more we allow those who ridicule God to affect our thoughts and attitudes, the more we separate from our source of nourishment. The phrase, they prosper in all they do, does not mean immunity to failure or difficulties. Nor does it guarantee health, wealth, and happiness. What the Bible means by prosperity is this: When we apply Gods wisdom, the fruit (results or by-products) we bear will be good and will receive Gods approval. Just as a tree soaks up water and bears luscious fruit, we also are to soak up Gods Word, producing actions and attitudes that honor God. To achieve anything worthwhile, we must have Gods Word in our hearts. Take a moment and do a checklist of where you are in your relationship with God. Are you spending the quality time in the Word and gaining Gods wisdom for your life? Is your relationship more of a head knowledge and short on the relational end? Make 2015 a year of changes, beginning with inviting God to be more involved. If you dont have a Bible, or you struggle with reading and understanding it. Might I suggest you buy yourself a copy of: The Message by Eugene Peterson. Its written in more of a contemporary style, and easier to understand. God Bless and Happy New Year!
