As Arizona Democrats begin voting for new leadership and new representation... I want you all to know that you are in my thoughts and I am rooting for you from 820 miles away! As you vote for new State Committee-people and eventually new leadership -- please, keep in mind that non-political, non-engaged, non-privileged people are counting on you. The party needs leaders who are willing to lead the charge and fight... for ourselves and for those unengaged people too. As many great Democrats have noted, its time for a new direction and a change... its the only way were going to be successful long term. I urge you to elect leadership that understands why we are democrats... and more importantly, lives it. Elect people with the uncomfortable narratives that know what its like to be poor, to be hungry, to be downtrodden... or have made it their lives work to empower others. Elect people who have visions for a better, brighter future for Arizona and for our children. Elect people who are different, who push the status quo, and who arent afraid of standing for our values... and to that point, people who are articulate enough to explain the vision. Dont be afraid to start confrontation with people who stand in the way of progress. Dont be afraid to acknowledge conflicting interests. Push for leadership that LIVES our values; but dont be so rigid that we cant accept that people can change. To that point, hold people accountable when they dont change as well. Be willing to listen when people speak their hearts and be forgiving when people speak their minds. Demand more. Expect more. Do more.
