As Bill Maher once said, you cant call yourself a think tank if all of your ideas are stupid. Avik Roy keeps embarrassing himself. Conservatives have been losing the battle of policy ideas for my entire lifetime so their default setting is to distract you by: A) Once again pretending that the unfettered free market is the solution to all of our problems (Even though tap water on fire, HMOs dropping people who became too expensive to cover and every act of the financial industry suggest that the unfettered free market would love to steal your money and kill you) B) Pitting white working stiffs against everyone theyd like to blame for the worlds problems, be it gays, minorities, feminists, secular humanists, unions (whose grip on power ever diminishes ... yet theyre somehow held liable) C) Reminding you that Democrats are not as patriotic, grounded in the American experience, or loyal to the Christian values that our Founding Fathers never actually had. Call it the Were red, white and Jesus argument, even though Jesus would have never cheered the death of the uninsured So remember their three point plan when they lose every policy argument. One, objective reality-based analysis is the product of liberal elites who seek to strangle the innovation and inherent superiority of the private sector, even when it is not superior and cannot be trusted to self police. Two, hate thy neighbor. Three, were more American and Christian than they are ... and thats the ballgame!
