As Christmas approaches, it is often easy to get caught up in the festivities of the season. For many, Christmas is about the tree, the lights, presents, the smells of fresh baking cookies from the kitchen, and a time with family and friends. For the next few days, we will share the traditional Christmas Hymns and if you will listen closely, each one has a powerful message that often gets lost. Such is the case with todays featured song, What Child is This. Most people do not even know that it has three separately written choruses, each one refers to a specific part of Christs ministry on earth. In most hymnals, the second verse has been omitted. It goes, Nails, spears, shall pierce him through, the cross be borne for me, for you. Hail, hail, the Word made flesh, the babe, the son of Mary. Even though we like to celebrate Christmas as the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, we must never forget that He came to bear the sins of mankind on the cross of Calvary.
