As DM I usually make certain rolls for my players. Mainly the rogue character. If actively searching for traps it can waste alot of time in game, since they move much slower searching each 5 foot square. So to expedite the process as long as the rogue leads the group through dangerous areas I consider him actively searching and I make his roll when the time comes. I do this because if I ask him to make a search out of the blue, he knows there is a trap ahead and this spoils it. Other circumstances I make rolls for other characters. One scenario for example is, a character is dining with someone he believes to be a helpful informant but in fact he is trying to poison his food,,sleight of hand vs. spot check is in order,,I make these my self because when ever I used to ask a player to make spot,,everyone at the table suddenly starts making spot and listen checks completely unopposed and for no reason but paranoia. My rogue player thinks its unfair for the DM to make his roll, because if I get a 1 he thinks he wouldnt have there for he would have found the trap. Do you ever have this problem?
