As I also listed last year, I figured I would give my personal pick for Record of the Year for my own personal musical tastes. I acquired 9 full-length albums in pop/rock music this year. They include: Foster The People - Supermodel The 1975 - The 1975 Weird Al Yankovic - Mandatory Fun Ariana Grande - My Everything Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett - Cheek to Cheek Neon Trees - Pop Psychology One Direction - Four Lena Katina - This is Who I Am WALK THE MOON - Talking is Hard Ive narrowed it down to my three favorites. The 1975, Walk the Moon and, contrary to my previously-held beliefs, One Direction. Four is reeeally good. Arianas and Neon Trees were pretty good, too. I was really disappointed with Fosters second showing, after knocking it out of the park with their first record a couple of years ago. There are only a handful of songs I really enjoy from their 2014 album. Gaga and Tonys album made me unfortunately realize that I dont dig jazz standards as much as Id like to believe I do. I think I would have to give my personal Album of the Year to The 1975. Even though it was released in 2013, The 1975 had wider penetration in the U.S. this year than last. I was introduced to their sound via iTunes making Chocolate a free single of the week and I was intrigued. Admittedly, I dont understand with clarity every lyric of their music, but their sound uniquely blends my favorite elements of pop and rock with an upbeat vocal styling. I find their music cycling through my playlists very frequently. If youre looking for something new to add to your playlist, try out The 1975. Ive attached an official playlist of their album if anyone cares to try them out.
