As I am about to embark on my first comprehensive visit to a number of Persian Gulf countries, a drama is unfolding, thanks to the need to obtain the Saudi Arabian visa before leaving the US, compounded by some errors committed by others :-( I would be really lucky if my passport comes back to me with the Saudi visa a day before I am scheduled to leave on this trip! I dont think I have ever been in such a situation before!! The Thanksgiving holidays also add to the delays. In spite of this unnecessary drama, I am looking forward to this trip which got initiated thanks to an invitation from Azza Abouzied for me to visit NYU Abu Dhabi to give a seminar. The following will be my schedule of talks. 3 Dec (Wed), Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Doha, Qatar, Host: Khaled Ammar 7 Dec (Sun), King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, Host: Mootaz Elnozahy 9 Dec (Tue), Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), Doha, Qatar, Hosts: Jaideep Srivastava, Ahmed K. Elmagarmid 11 Dec (Thu), NYU Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Host: Azza Abouzied During this trip, I will be visiting my relatives in Bahrain and Dubai also: Shreevidya Bharadwaj, Shankar Bharadwaj, Sunuj S Deen, Rashmi Narayan, Santosh Balasubramaniam, Sajitha Santosh. I am debating if I should try to visit any University in Bahrain! Except for Doha, I havent visited any of these places before! I will be on the Red Sea coast for the first time since Thuwal (and its nearest airport Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) are located on the west coast of Saudi Arabia!
