As I am no longer part of the club’s management it probably - TopicsExpress

As I am no longer part of the club’s management it probably isn’t my place to pass comment on this but as the coach of this years fillies I definitely would like to comment on the posts below. Since the Feature yesterday, I have been inundated with texts and calls from players & parents who were disappointed with the coverage afforded the club’s female representative teams. I dont think anyone was more upset than I was yesterday as Ive been a staunch advocate and promoter of womens football in this region for many, many years and have always done whatever I could to advance Ingham FC’s participation in this category. At times the battle for female recognition is definitely tough and it shouldn’t be because women’s football is one of the fastest growing sports in Australia. Overall yesterday’s End of Season Feature was certainly informative, newsy & eye catching and leading into the new season, the exposure generated from this feature for Ingham FC will be huge. The Express did a great job covering most teams BUT unfortunately for some reason the fillies and women were definitely short changed! With such a large spread and 8 pages covering all facets of every team representing Ingham FC, surely of the 20 photos included in the feature a mere 2 could have been allocated to the fillies and women! Bit of background information ... all team coaches were approached by the club’s management three weeks ago and asked to submit a team article and photos for this end of season wrap-up. This we did and the Club then forwarded all photos and related articles to the paper in good faith. Four fillies photos were submitted to the club for consideration/ inclusion in the feature; these included the team photo mentioned below taken after the fillies won their way through to the finals series plus 3 other random player shots. I am sure the women’s management would have done likewise. Understandably the Express does have the final say in what is published and unfortunately for some reason the fillies and women’s photos were left out totally. With two female players included in the final promotional picture on the feature back-page, while the exposure was minimal, at least some female component of the club was recognized.
