As I am sitting here waiting for my own Dr.s appointment (hip follow up;), I am so thankful for the incredible healing power of the body, especially the brain. These past 15 months have been LONG and filled with a lot of heartache, fear and uncertainty (as well as tests and doctors appointments). I am so grateful to the doctors and therapists who have been along on this journey with us. A concussion is something that so many of us have either heard of, dealt with or experienced and most of us have blown off as no big deal. The long term effects of Brycens concussion have forever changed our view of its potential seriousness. This has definitely been the scariest and toughest things I have had to deal with as a mom... to not know if the child you have known intimately all his life, will ever truly come back to you and there is a grieving process within that as well. Personality, idiosyncrises, as well as all that which makes us, us; all live within our brain. It is so hard to watch that go away and I have a newfound compassion for those dealing with Alzheimers and other brain injuries. We are so blessed that Brycens was temporary and although there is still some work to be done, we have seen so much progress. The Brycen-isms have returned, his memory and processing have greatly improved and we could not be more proud of his ACT achievement scores. Now onto getting ready to represent the US as Student Ambassador in Europe this summer. I cannot think of a more hard-working, determined, spirited, inspiring and deserving young man. I love you to the moon and back, Brycen.󾬓 #ohtheplacesyoullgo!
