On the 19th of July 2013, I received a replacement TV from New World Discount Stores in Menlyn Pretoria after my TV was stolen in a house robbery. As I was in the process of moving house and only opened the TV on the 2rd of August 2013 to set it up in my lounge. As I was going through the TV manual, I discovered that the model number was LG47”ML4600. I noted that my TV did not have the same features, and at first I thought that because models change all the time, this model had other features that my LG47”ML5800 did not have. I was also concerned that the TV specifically did not have the “Truemotion” feature like my previous TV. On Sunday the 4th of August, I called New World Discount Stores to enquire about the price of the TV they gave me. The sales person told me that the TV was priced at R7999. I was shocked because the TV I had claimed for was R10999. The assessor, Bob Hayes, also confirmed that because M&F get discounted rates, they would replace the TV at R10799. That is also the amount that was on the invoice for M&F to pay. On collection of my goods, to the total value of R39571, I was also told by Max at New World, that as a thank you for the business, they would also include a BluRay player. I was very happy and took my goods. Here is my problem. 1) The claim for the TV, and paid for by M&F, was R10799, however New World gave me a TV to the value of R7999 2) When brining it to the manager’s attention (Leslie) he told me that the TV was marked down from R10799 to R7999. 3) At the store, I noted on a “sale sticker” that the TV was actually marked down from R8499 to R7999. 4) Leslie the manager then explained that the sticker showing the mark down was wrong, as the TV should have shown a markdown from R10799. At this point I realised that he was again lying to me. 5) Leslie offered me a credit for the difference by calculating the price of the TV and the BluRay player. I was originally told that the BluRay player was supposed to be for free as a “Thank you” for my business. The credit for the DVD proved that the player was never for free. Leslie did not want to take the TV back because I had thrown away the packaging. I told him that the reason I threw it away were for 2 reasons. I did not think that I would need the box again and secondly I was moving and got rid of all my boxes. I left the store with my TV and although they offered me a credit, I did not accept it and told them that I would take matters further with M&F and the assessor. Leslie would not budge and I left the store. I did not want the credit, I wanted a TV of equal value. I would like to let M&F know that I am very unhappy and believe that I was blatantly robbed by the store because on more than one occasion I caught them out as lying and that by the manager/owner. Please could I ask for you to investigate because I believe that you M&F has paid for something that I did not get as they gave me a cheaper TV and that I am still without the similar replacement TV. I have also noted on Hello Peter that there are 19 complaints against the store.
