As I am sure we all do, I remember every single moment, every sight, sound, and smell of that day and the days that followed. I remember the horror, dismay, disbelief and stunned sadness that swept us all. I remember, too, though, the outpouring of support, sympathy, and kindness Rory writes of so beautifully. I remember how relieved I felt when we started the road trips, and we walked into a barn for the first time, breathing deeply that wonderful smell that defies description but everybody who has ever loved horses knows so well. And I remember how happy Sonia, Martha, and I were seeing you girls riding again, and the bittersweet joy as we met, one by one, the new BAF horses. Years and years have passed. None of you are teenagers anymore. Some of us still ride all the time, some of us not as much. Whether there is dust on our saddle or its freshly oiled and ready to go, we are forever connected by the BAF 31.
