As I drove away from Fort Lauderdale Airport, I was flooded with childhood memories of Florida, Miami and North Miami Beach. How different it is now from when I was a kid. We were one of the first Chabad families to move to NMB and now when I go to shul people have no idea who I am or that Im Malkas daughter. In 10th grade I was in Bais Chana high school, a branch of Landow Yeshivah which at that time had 8 girls to my class AND the class was 2 grades together now the schools are busting from the seems. The community was a mix of people comprised of Modern Orthodox, Orthodox and Chassidish and at Simchas Bais Hashoeva everyone danced in the middle of 10th avenue together.... there was no Chabad shul when I was younger. Now, this place is so flooded with Jews (a good thing btw) that I feel like such an outsider, like a visitor the the place I spent most of childhood. The street I used to go rollerblading on were once empty side for the stray dogs and tiny gnats that used to hit my face as I wizzed by...... I guess its all the realities of growing up. Anyway, hey Miami friends....its good to be home.
