As I have been walking around residence today and yesterday, some people have stopped and asked me for clarification on certain points of my platform. I will attempt to do so here: This past year, I have found that even as a member of the IRC as a Senior House Rep, I am not always informed of everything going on in the Council and I find that, in talking to residents who are not currently part of the IRC, the same goes for them. If elected president I would strive to make the IRC more transparent by publishing our budget break down for the residents to see and advertising our meetings to encourage non Council members to attend. I have also heard from many people that they wished to have been more involved in Innis this year without taking on the full workload of a Council member. In order to help this happen and along with encouraging attendance at house meetings, I would implement Executive office hours and a suggestions box at front desk. This would allow anyone to submit ideas or ask questions either directly of a council member, or indirectly through the box. Taking advantage of the more stream lined meeting process, the IRC has put in place this year, I would also like to section off a portion of the meeting time for discussing suggestions from the suggestion box as well as answering any questions from the attendants. Earlier in this post I mentioned that I would like to make the IRC budget public record. I would also like to get more input on how you as residents want your money spent. All residents pay student fees to the IRC and should have a say in where that money goes. This can be done through the suggestions box and more publicly available meetings, but it can also be done through getting the Senior House Reps more involved in meetings. Your senior house reps are your voting advocates in IRC meetings and are there to represent the interests and preferences of their house. The IRC should take advantage of their experience as Innis leaders and their knowledge of the residence.
