As I pulled into the gas station this evening I noticed the attendant right away. He was a clean cut man with a strong voice and smiling eyes. He just carried himself with an air of dignity that stood out ya know? As we talked about the day and work, I learned that this was his 23rd day in a row working at this station and that he had a second job as well. I commented on how rough that was. Well, thats what you do when you work for minimum wage, he stated with a smile in his thick middle eastern accent. I wanted to ask him where he was from and what kind of work he had done there, but by that time I had my receipt and he was wishing me well. I cant stop thinking about him. I cant stop thinking about how many of us complain about our jobs. I wonder why this man isnt able to get a better paying job. Obviously there is schooling and training needed, but does it also have anything to do with the fact that he looks like a Muslim from Iraq? I do not know what it feels like to be a person of color or to be from a foreign country...... but I sincerely wish I could do more to make a difference for others.
