As I read the story of the little girl whos dad gave her a foul - TopicsExpress

As I read the story of the little girl whos dad gave her a foul ball off the bat of Yankee Derek Jeter and she dutifully, naively threw it back onto the field, a couple of things sprang to mind. The innocence of youth often contains valuable messages to we who think were all grown up. Everyone around, and watching, gasped as the young girl did what she was sure was the right thing to do. They were collectively thinking something like, No! She didnt just do that! That balls worth a lot of money! But value is relative, and subjective. This little girls heart and spirit are far more valuable than that baseball, in my mind. Now her heart may be broken, as well as her spirit by the jests, taunting, and worst of all, media frenzy that she will surely face. Sure. There will be some, no doubt her parents, who tell her she did the right thing, and its okay because she didnt know, and so forth, but the message she will get time and time again, maybe for years, is that she did something incredibly stupid in throwing away possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars. I pray that somehow, some way, she will know that true value is not found in any material thing or wealth, but in heaven, and that God helps her maintain that innocent heart and spirit.
