As I read this chapter of the book of John, I can only empathize - TopicsExpress

As I read this chapter of the book of John, I can only empathize and commiserate with persons in abusive relationships and marriages. It is obvious that the attention of Jesus was focused on the emotional and spiritual state of this hard working woman whom He met at Jacobs well. Jesus deemed it more important to meet this Womans needs before His own needs. Jesus is not by any means castigating this woman for getting married five times. He recognized that She had come to the point of despondency where possibly She no longer considers it necessary to legalize her relationships probably due to the lack of faith in the institution of marriage. This ladys marriages may have broken up not due to no fault on her part, probably her five husbands could not maintain their vows. Sometimes we get so disappointed with human institutions that we give up. Issues of spousal abuse are real in our communities. Thank God that Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God did not come to this Woman with condemnation, but He came with the message of Life and solution to her issues. In verse 13 and 14 Jesus offers her the solution to the real issue of her life, which is relationship with the Almighty God through Jesus Christ. He offers her the Life of God. When we are faced with issues of life, let us go to Christ who has available, living waters which are sufficient to quench all thirst and provide answers to whatever confronts us. Indeed the solution had come to the Samaritan Woman at the well. Suddenly the fact that She had been in five previous marriages and currently in a relationship that was not legalized paled into insignificance at meeting The Lord. Sometimes we wonder how to erase the acts of our past and our current decadent state, the same applies to us here, the solution and answer lies in our coming to Jesus Christ as we are, trusting Him to make us new. The Lord Jesus Christ condemns no one, come to Him as you are. Do kindly Take that step today.
