As I reviewed this video, I immediately began critiquing myself. Like, my technique needs serious improvement, my posture needs straightening, why did I make a that silly face, my styling can be polished, on and on...etc. After I made myself feel real bad and even had the nerve to compare myself with other performers, I realized how unconstructive my criticism was. I began focusing to heavily on things I did wrong without providing myself with any productive solutions to improve. I started to devalue myself. When in actuality, my confidence, footwork and even technical dancing abilities has gradually improved since I started in February. So, what should I have done? *Evaluate- review to measure improvements. This is okay and healthy for growth. Its when we compare ourselves with others in an unrealistic fashion (compare to the worst or professionals) that is hazardous to our mental health. *Shine True- In my video I was smiling, laughing and enjoying myself. Despite the mistakes and technical errors. To the inexperienced I actually did great because I had the nerve to dance in public. All in all, have Faith within yourself. Dont beat yourself up so much. It dims your light and knocks you off path. Dust yourself of and keep practicing. Your light will Shine because you were brave enough to strike the match.
