As I see photos posted by friends from Kashmir about the flood and rivers overflowing, I worry. I worry for them and their neighbours. Given that those who control the place are not particularly known for being visionary, honest and efficient in governance or caring about the plight of the humans (both in rural and urban areas), and given that the mal- development (unplanned buildings made of dubious material, poor roads and infrastructure, human settlements in flood prone areas, illegal mining, sand mafias in cahoots with corrupt officials messing up the rivers, etc) accentuates the impact of flood, people have to rely upon each other. It is the collective that has to be there for the individuals and individuals have to work for the collective. Let us hope that the rains stop soon and major floods are averted. Dear friends there in Kashmir, please take care.
