As I sit here and reflect upon the past school year I am filled with a plethora of emotion. This year has been one of many beautiful memories. Our community continuously came together and not only gave countless volunteer hours but showed our children how to be leaders. I really was not sure what to expect coming in as HSA president but what I knew was that positivity is contagious and embracing each others strength was needed. I came across two very important girls that shared a similar vision Maria Cristina Rodriguez and Elsie Goyco. They jumped right in with the same determination of making TASIS Dorado the best it can be. Together we started on this magical journey and consciously seeing the strength, determination and hardworking ethic in others along the way. The journey beganwith Jane Burgess, Amy Donica and Leslie Maas Cortes. They were a few of the first who got their feet wet in the Fall Festival. Their creative ambition helped raise over $7,000 for UNICEF. We tripled what we made the previous year and had a wonderful time doing so. The Verbena which is always a highlight of the year for all our kids was another successful event that was effortlessly pulled off again by two fantastic ladies Karen Scalley and Elsa Abreau. We also gave a wonderful lunch to our hardworking teachers during professional day. With the school year wuickly going by in November some moms made collection of money for the Thanksgiving baskets for the maintenance crew. We also collected a Christmas collection for all the teachers and boy were they ever grateful! It was such a special surprise for them. We came back with even more determination and tenacity with the leadership of Janalle Sommer-Trigo and Andrea Evers Crikelair who organized the lunch duty so all of our children could have warm lunches. A group of moms came in every single day to heat up the lunches. This enabled the teachers to eat their lunch and still gave the kids the opportunity for warm lunches. Cristina Castro began her Young Authors journey. She tirelessly recruited many volunteers to type, edit and bind the books so we can all enjoy them with our children. What a special event she made possible for us to have with our kids! Next up was the incredible Grandparents week. It was a very touching and fantastic week for all of those that participated. It was the first time TASIS Dorado ever had a time dedicated just for the special persons and Grandparents in our lives. The joy and happiness was in the air all week. Grades PPK-5th grade worked so hard to make this day so special. A huge thank you to Pilar Rodriguez Bou. Her talent and calm presence was truly a gift that I was able to soak in while working with her. Literally the next week we sprinted into the walk a thon which earned a generous amount for the PAC. The leadership of Jovita P. Herrero-Casanovas along with Michael Aussem, Maritere Matosantos, Fernando Gonzalez provided our children the opportunity to give back to our wonderful establishment. I have never seen so many eager children wanting to make a difference through fundraising. The creative ideas that the teachers gave to the kids on how to fundraise for something so important to our school is a life lesson for our children that I am so truly grateful for. The bonus was the money raised but the true value was teaching our children to look outside of themselves to raise money for others. Our next endeavor was to give back to the people that continuously make an enormous difference in all our lives -The TASIS Dorado Teachers. Claudette and Jairo Estrada graciously opened their home to a night filled with great music, food and best of all the company of our teachers. I cannot tell you how happy it made me seeing the teachers so relaxed and having a wonderful time. Our teachers work so hard day in and day out and they deserve to have a party in their honor. Lastly our successful event headed by Andrea Evers Crikelair and Lori Guerra-Reyes. The Disco ball was a huge success and let all of the parents cut the rug and have a fun time doing so. As usual our selfless teachers came in and gave us a wonderful rendition of Michael Jackson. I want to thank all of the people who jumped in and helped me this year. The homeroom moms made such a difference in our community. Thank you all who volunteered to be a homeroom mom. I know I called on you at times last minute but I truly appreciate all your hard work. A leader is only as good as the people they surround themselves with. I also want to say thank you to Jovita, she was a true support in my journey which now I am so proud to call my friend. TASIS Dorado is incredibly lucky to have such an amazing woman on their team! Maritere Matosantos thank you for all your time and backing on all my crazy ideas. Your calm presence in a few storms enabled the sun to shine quickly. Maribel thank you for always being there with your happiness and positive leadership. Mr.C I have learned so much about the school through a different set of eyes. Thank you. TASIS Dorado HSA members thank you for allowing me to lead this year it was a wonderful personal and professional journey for me. My proudest moment this year was when my daughter said this to me last week, Mommy I had a great year this year. The best part was telling my friends how cool it was you were the HSA president. Thank you all for giving me this opportunity to make a difference. May you all have a restful summer and I look forward to a wonderful 2014-2015 year.
