As I sit here in London, having an extremely slow morning to balance out the insanity of the last 4 days (which included the single best hour of busking in my life yesterday, tons of new friends like Matt Grant, more of London explored and about 15 hours spent walking...), I cant help but reflect on how this summer has EASILY been the best summer of my life. Vancouver, Toronto, Berlin, Paris, Frankfurt, London, and soon to be Edinburgh and Amsterdam.... this is the way I was meant to live. Im so incredibly grateful for all the things that have happened to make this whole experience what it was. I always wanted to see a place from the ground up (literally). I wanted to meet the locals, interact with them, share deep communion and laughter and inspiration. I wanted to see the things only the locals see, and most importantly, play as much music as possible. The list of people who have impacted my life in this crazy journey of mine grows by the day. Everyone seems so excited to meet me and hear stories of my life as a traveling musician! Its unbelievably flattering and I feel the exact same about them. Im so grateful for people like David Abramovitz, Carlos Iván Mejía Rosario, Matthias Kruschke, Shaylee Nicole and Eva Lotz who have not only taken the time to show me their cities but also their homes and in some cases family. When I quit my job to pursue music, I did it knowing (with great excitement and utter impatience) that one day, if I persevered, I would be able to take what I do and do it on the road. People like Michael Anthony Bonnici and Daniel Zindler and Spandy Andy are such inspirations to me, traveling the world, living lives of uncompromising freedom and exploration, and I can not believe how large the worldwide busking community is! Everywhere I go, Im meeting other buskers who are a part of that. And now, as I get ready to leave the 6th city I have performed in, I eagerly look to the horizon. I cant help but feel that all of this has been leading up to something very special, and that Edinburgh might be that something special. Thomas Beckman, Jarrett Plett.... guys, we NEED to do this together sometime, and soon!!! There are no people Id rather be experiencing this world with than you two, and the waves we make will resonate through the people we play for. I feel it in my bones. Life, Im falling in love with you more every single day. One grateful and humbled musician, Matthew
