As I was browsing the movies at a Redbox kiosk in the local - TopicsExpress

As I was browsing the movies at a Redbox kiosk in the local Safeway in Oro Valley last evening, when I had an experience which left me shaken. There were two guys behind me in the line, so that tells you that the pressure was already on. So, I begin my process, quickly find the movie I was after, and then start doing a search, title by title, for a second movie, the “free” one, when out of the mouth of the second guy comes a negative, harassing comment stating that, “you know you can look online at redbox and save time, you can do this at home, and that way you don’t have to make the rest of us wait while you look…” I was a little shocked that he was still going on and on, so I engaged, if only for a moment, to thank him for his opinion, and to tell him that his opinion was none of my business. I stopped my commentary to him after I said what I said, he, on the other hand continues on. I confess it was unnerving and I felt quite harassed, when I caught the watchful eye of the gal at the Service desk, who I then engaged in a conversation with saying, “I shouldn’t have to be at a Redbox kiosk and get harassed, could you please call Security.” She then said, that “Redbox is a first come first serve and you were here first.” I agreed, and continued my movie search, calming myself down with self-talk to not engage further with the obnoxious blabber mouth with bad manners (my opinion, kept to self), more self-talk, to stay in the power position of calm and continue my search as if all was normal, which I did. I made sure to exit the store in the direction of the Service Desk, to thank the young lady that stuck up for me, and it also turns out that this was in the opposite direction of blabber mouth. Turns out that the Store Manager, as well as the rest of the Clerks all had eyes on the situation, which was reassuring. Yet, still, I was visibly shaken and quite surprised that blabber mouth was now exiting the store in my direction. I kept my calm, resisted eye contact, or conversation, and was never so glad to see my son enter the store as I was last night. It was perfect timing, he could now walk me out to the car, along with the Service desk clerk. I was completely floored at the whole situation and my body was literally shaken to its core with fear. It’s Redbox people, Redbox. At Redbox, I expect that people, who are there first, just like any other line, are allowed to do their business without being harassed by others. Breathe people, breathe. I am thankful for the moment, in that line, where I was able to draw upon my reservoirs of calm. Move out of my way harassers, for you teach me how not to be in this world. You also teach me that I do indeed have it in me, to create peace, at a moments notice. For this I am thankful. Amen
