As I was saying in my previous post, I will be teaching Gregorian - TopicsExpress

As I was saying in my previous post, I will be teaching Gregorian Chant workshops in Spiddal, County Galway, Ireland, starting this coming Monday night. If you like this traditional and MEDIEVAL music page, you may well know what Gregorian Chant is. If not, here is a very small, certainly oversimplistic explanation: Gregorian Chant is a style of liturgical singing that was sung at Mass in the Middle Ages. It was sung in Latin, and was sung between 8th. and 13th. century. What does Gregorian Chant sound like? Well, it does depend, as Chant was sung in so many countries, over so many centuries that it is difficult to define ONE SOUND of Gregorian Chant. Indeed, Gregorian Chant has many different sounds, and is an extremely varied musical style. However, here is an example of a Christmas chant from the wonderful French ensemble Discantus! This piece is MUCH harder than anything I teach at my Monday workshops, mind you, but I still thought I would share, as it is very beautiful! Enjoy, and if you are around Galway/Spiddal this coming Monday, maybe see you in class! Thanks! :.) https://youtube/watch?v=KM1NkUzRgxQ&list=PL474362AB034B2C6A
