As I was stood on a residents step ladders peeping over the fence - TopicsExpress

As I was stood on a residents step ladders peeping over the fence at the land to the rear of 77 Thornfield Road I wondered if I have in fact lost my mind...The lady I spoke with received a letter on 29th December regarding outline permission to erect 2 apartment blocks (8 no bed in total) and associated access (a road going through Aysgarth Road). This is the first anyone had heard about it. She also gave me copies of the proposed plans. The majority of residents do not want to lose this space rich in wildlife. Residents of Aysgarth road pay a service charge and they think own 70% of the land and Erimus Housing own 30% I took some photographs from her window (she invited me!) She told me that her husbands ashes are scattered on the green space outside her home (where the road will go through if given permission) and how her husband used to sit and watch the squirrels and birds from the window...and she still does. She told me how much the residents love seeing the foxes. Speaking to this lady made me realise that I have not in fact lost my mind to be peeping over fences on a Saturday morning...but that some green spaces are important to people. They benefit communities, peoples health and wellbeing, they benefit wildlife, supply clean air to breathe and help protect against flooding. They need to be protected. I would propose an alternative plan- There should be a gate (with a key that residents have access) and some benches put in so the community can use and enjoy the space as currently there is no access. All those in the Linthorpe area (or even if you are not) feel free to OBJECT via MBC Search and Track to this plan or contact Erimus Housing (Head Office) 2 Hudson Quay Windward Way Middlesbrough TS2 1QG Tel: 01642 773600
