As I work with many coaching clients and other business people, I am always reminded how important effective communication is. One area that seems to be neglected at times is answering of emails and phone messages. How do you measure up? Perhaps your organization has a policy that any type of message should be responded to within 24 to 48 hours. Do you do that? If nothing else, the sender usually wants to be sure the message got past the filters and was not lost in cyberspace or voicemail parking lots!! I am convinced that we were reduce the amount of rework in this regard if we just took three minutes to acknowledge the message and establish a timeframe when the sender could expect a more in depth response. What is the acceptable time frame in your world, given that everyone is always pretty busy?
