As I write this update, I am sitting on my deck enjoying the peace of a misty Sunday morning. And for the first time in two years, I can call this home I love so much my own. I had almost given up, just a few short months ago...the new refinancing guidelines would not allow my business income to be counted fully, and I had only been in my new job with Fairfax County for little over a year. Roger was due to be paid off for his half of the equity in July, and without being able to qualify to refinance on my own, the home was scheduled to be listed for sale. BUT...it seemed that every day someone would lift me up a little, and would remind me not to give up hope. And on a visit to the local branch of Navy Federal Credit Union (the mortgage holder) back in May, one of the member service representatives told me that she believed in me and encouraged me to write to the NFCU president, Admiral Dawson. She provided his contact information...and I went home and started to write. It took about a week for me to get it just right, but by then I was sure that the letter conveyed everything that needed to be said. And so I sent it off and waited. Only 3 days later, I was driving home from a job site and my phone rang (thank goodness for Sirius!). It was one of the NFCU executive loan officers who worked with Admiral Dawson and his team. She said that we would find a way -- together -- to make the loan happen. On Friday, July 11th, I closed on the new loan, and by the end of the following week, Roger had been paid and signed the deed over to me. The happy tears came easily that night...along with immense gratitude for so many of you who sent positive thoughts my way. I had almost forgotten to believe in myself...my strengths (including the written word), and my faith in others to do the right thing. Its definitely a reminder that if we look for the GOOD in life, there will always be something worth seeing just beyond the horizon.
