As Muslims who are continuously striving to better ourselves we should regularly take some time out and ponder over our words, our actions, and our sins and thereby hold ourselves to account before a time comes when the matter will be taken out of our hands. Some questions you could ask yourself; Am I from the Muttaqeen(those having taqwa), the Muhsineen (those conscious of Allaah), the Mutawakkileen (those relying only on Allaah), the Khashi’een (those humbled to Allaah), the Saabireen (the patient), the Saadiqeen (the truthful), the Khaa’ifeen (the fearful), and the Raajieen (the hopeful)? If after our accounting we find that we have done well, we should be grateful to Allaah for having enabled us to do so, otherwise and even if we have done well, we should sincerely repent and resolve to refrain from further evil; we should continuously seek the forgiveness of Allaah and pledge to become one of the righteous...and this cycle should be repeated as often as possible..
