As Thanksgiving is right around the corner, it makes me remember one particular Thanksgiving I spent w/ my family as a child. I may have been 10-11 years old at the time. It always switched from our house to my Uncle Jimmys house. Anyways it just so happened to be at our home. Turkey was in the oven, ham was done, pupus were on the table, and my brother & I were anxious for everyone o come over. The door bell rang, and my mom yelled for one of us kids to answer the door. Both my brother and myself ran to do it. We opened the door, and there standing before us was a priest from our church at the time, St. Bedes. We called for our mom, and told her who it was. She told us to let him in. And so we did. My mom & dad, both stopped what they were doing, and told us to gather around in our living room. We did as we were told, and stood there waiting to see what was going to happen next. The priest told all of us to bow our heads & close our eyes. He started to pray. He prayed for all who are near & far, those who are w/ our Heavenly Father, for anyone who maybe traveling, and for those who are having hard times during the holidays. He stayed for the meal, and then he left. You know as a child, you may not quite understand the whole reasoning behind the gesture of why he was there, or the purpose regarding all of it. But looking back at it now, makes me appreciate the entire experience so much more. That is one Thanksgiving I will not forget.
