As a follow-up post on climate change, here is a clip on why facts dont always work as some people, including certain policymakers, do not believe or ignore global warming. Some of the gist here: 1) Climate change and natural disasters are perceived to be part of nature that happens throughout history regardless of human activities. 2) Unlike terrorist attacks, deadly virus outbreaks or the likes, global warming doesnt seem to kill us immediately nor it seems to be as horrible. 3) We have a finite pool of worry (own health, education/career, family, economy) and global warming isnt allowed in the water. 4) Social conformity i.e. if you are a part of social groups who do not believe in or downplay climate change, you are compelled to act the same just so you dont feel like an outsider. 5) Yes, I get it, we acknowledge global warming as a major threat to humanity, but we are still waiting for its solution by scientists and policymakers. There is very little we can do now Some food for thought: Do you think vast majority of Malaysians believe in climate change due to human activities? How far are we in terms of safeguarding our climate/environment, and our beloved rainforest?
