As a former YCSD student my entire life and a graduate of York High I just need to say something. It is sad the district is now in the control of the state, nor do I agree with an all charter option. I got a good education because I demanded it. However that being said I believe the state should take over at least the administration aspect of the district and Im sorry to say but also get rid of the teachers union. I had fabulous teachers throughout my years. Mrs. Rafferty, Ms. Hines, Mr. Stambaugh, brodbeck, and of course DOAK just to name a few. Unfortunately I also teachers in elementary through high school telling kids youll never amount to anything, youre not bright enough to know this, youre animals, go to after school tutoring thats what they get paid for and much more. I saw kids get passed year after year and even graduate that didnt even know how to read at all. The problem keeps getting worse because everyone blames one particular group wether it be parents, teachers, admin instead of sharing the blame. Instead of letting teachers keep their jobs when they were repeatedly caught doing wrong they should have been fired! But no, once youre there for 10 years they CANT! They just play the shuffle game. Admin spends money stupidly and yes there are plenty I parents that dont care too. If youre really fighting for the kids then do it from all aspects. Just my opinion
