As a hospital authorization rep Ive already started seeing these. Many times the patient hasnt been made fully aware that they have no coverage so its up to my colleagues & I to break the news. Most often the patient is unable to pay for the care theyve received so the hospital ends up writing off hundreds of thousands of dollars either as charity or bad debt. In order to keep the doors open we must pass the cost on to other consumers. In my opinion the insurance industry badly needed an overhaul, but from my desk it looks as if Obamacare has just put a greater burden on the people who can least afford it.
