As a kid in the early-mid 1970s, I used to order prints of silent films from a company in Davenport, IA called Blackhawk Films...just getting their catalogs alone was an event for me. Most of them were shorts (Laurel and Hardy...or serials like Ruth Roland)...and in the summers when visiting my Grandmother wed screen them on a Bell and Howell Super8 with me providing the accompaniment on her Hammond. One time she surprised me with a feature! The Gold Rush-one of her all-time faves. We set up in the Town Hall, even getting the neighbors to help haul the Hammond-charged 50 cents admission (to fund future purchases) and most of the town showed up! One of my fondest summertime movie memories.
