This Sunday we go back to Luke who in 11:1-13 gives us a slightly different version of the Lord’s Prayer than we use regularly. Here we receive a rather lengthy commentary on the petition, “give us each day our daily bread”. In the process he presents the image of our Heavenly Father he wishes us to have. We owe it to the Lord to take this as a template for all of our considerations of who God is for us. It also strengthens our confidence in praying. Now read again these words from Luke 11:9-10, “I tell you ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Are you convinced that God always answers our prayers? Or are you a little skeptical? Remember the image used - sometimes in my life I have asked for what I believed was bread or a fish, when my prayer wasn’t answered. I can tell you, I was disappointed. However, life teaches and in retrospect God gave me bread and fish when I had asked for scorpion and the stone. This ever happen to you? -- Msgr. John Barry
