As a lifelong Yankee fan, I wasnt sure what kind of sendoff the Red Sox would give to Derek Jeter. I was expecting something cheesy and terrible, so I would have another reason to HATE the Red Sox. To my surprise, the Red Sox organization did a tremendous job. They went about the commencement with more class and dignity than any other Major League Team. They did more for the event than the Yankees did. They outclassed my beloved Yankees. Yesterday at Fenway was magical. God help me for saying this, but , Thank You Red Sox.On Thursday. Derek made the day special, not the Yankees. The Yankees did nothing at all to commemorate the day except to give out a small poster of Derek. The Red Sox made it personal. They brought out all the previous Captains of the Red Sox, they brought out stars from all the major sports from Boston. Afterward they had an Aretha Franklin type of singer sing the song R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Then in the 7th inning they brought in Ronan Tynan who for years was a staple at Yankees Stadium to sing God Bless America . Then they brought in Bernie Williams to play take me out to the ballgame. Whoever the director of media relations and event co-coordinator is for the Red Sox should be given a raise or hired away by the Yankees, because they out-shined the Yankees. The Rex Sox fans also showed class in rooting for Derek Jeter in a way that I thought I would never hear at Fenway Park. I still hate the Red Sox, but for one day there was a truce and both sides were able to coexist at the same stadium. Thank You for a great day.
