As a member of this site I have seen many posts revealing the great pride and love that you all have for the town of Dundalk. My brother and I recently had the pleasure of visiting the town and as an outsider I would have to say it is well deserved! I loved walking around the town (it is so clean!) and visiting all the shops...everyone was so down to earth, helpful and friendly! (That would be a rare find where I live in NJ, lol!) For some reason Dundalk had the most “comfortable” feeling than the other towns that I visited in Ireland. I hope you dont mind me sharing some of my favorite things about your town! First off, I had the most enjoyable stay at the Glen Gat...the owners were great and they had super comfy beds! St. Patricks Cathedral was so beautiful and majestic. The first night that we were in Dundalk we went walking at night to find the church. Well, it was pretty dark and being that we had no sense of direction, we were just walking in circles at the Market Square, staring at the town map. I had just about given up..but no sooner than I asked out loud “I am so confused, where could it be?” the church bells started ringing, leading us in the right direction. It was a pretty surreal moment! The Louth County Museum had lots of interesting exhibits and the staff was so sweet and helpful. I also paid a visit to the Louth County Librarys genealogy dept., and spoke with Alan Hand who was just so funny, awesome and gave me some excellent info. As recommended by some of the members here, I did go to the Windsor Bar and Jockeys. I was very pleased with the food and service at both, though unfortunately did not get to experience any of the music there but did at the Phoenix Bar which I really enjoyed! Ok, so I think I may have fallen in love with traditional Irish music! And the Home Bakery (scones, yum!) and maybe Tescos just a little bit! And who knew that Ireland had such great coffee? I though you guys were all about the tea! But the best part of all was connecting with distant relatives...whose kind hospitality provided us with much fun and great memories. Dundalk is such a wonderful town... the only regrets I have are that I didnt stay long enough and do/see more of the area!
