As a mom I have a heavy heart this morning. Rumors and gossip lead to a police investigation at Henrys school yesterday. Threats were made involving guns, etc. and violence to happen today. The school did its part and ruled out any credible threat which is somehow supposed to bring me comfort and assuage his fears. But I know he went to bed feeling anxious. The truth of it all is Im coming to terms with not being able to protect my sons from the world. I never could. I can guarantee them my love and steadfastness but truly thats the sum total of what I can promise. I can tell them both that hiding from life also has risks and they usually come with rotten consequences. I can tell them about the satisfaction that comes from pushing yourself away from what you know is safe to the unknown. This morning though I will remind them that when we allow evil to take away our every day moments we give it power and allow nastiness to breed. Today our little family goes forth, imperfect warriors in a battle for the everyday victory, giving confidence to others for the journey.
