As a music teacher, I have never been a big fan of the Suzuki string method. I find that although it makes little kids sound like wizards to parents, with the ability to play traditional favorites by ear at an early age...it majorly lacks emphasis on note reading, technique, music theory, and scales/chords/improvisation. I have spent much more time deprogramming students from this system than supporting it. Perhaps now, more teachers with find other methods and avenues of teaching strings, rather than just jumping on the Suzuki method because it has been the standard standby system for so long.
